Short Profile of Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi, H.I., S.I.,

Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi is the founder Rector of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Pakistan.  He raised CIIT from nowhere to one of the top institutions of the country. It is also being ranked in the world and Asian universities. The rise of CIIT is due to its internationalization programs, collaboration in research and human resource development.

In last year the CIIT published over 1500 research articles in impact factor journals. It currently has over 1200 PhD full time faculty members mostly from abroad. At present, Dr. Zaidi is the Executive Director of COMSATS and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the CIIT. 

COMSATS is an international and intergovernmental organization comprising 25 Member States, strives to promote South-South cooperation in the fields of Science and Technology that are most relevant to socio-economic development. A Network of 21 Centres of Excellence in four continents is affiliated with COMSATS.

In recognition of his uninterrupted service to society, the Government of Pakistan twice conferred the prestigious national awards of Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2007 and Hilal-i-Imtiaz in 2014. The University of Lancaster, United Kingdom also conferred on Dr. Zaidi an honorary doctorate degree in 2012.
