Jacques van der Meer is an industrial economist with a 35 years experience in R&D, innovation and industrial economics and development. At the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Union's financing institution for projects that foster the EU's social and economic development, he has been responsible for the due diligence of projects that are proposed for EIB financing, in particular in R&D and Innovation both in industrial sectors (pharma, fine chemicals, glass, steel, paer, automotive and mechanical equipment) and in the public sector, such as Research Infrastructures (Like Syncrotrons, Laser Installations, Spallation Sources, or the ESO's Extreme Large Telescope) or Science and Technology Parks.

 

He further leads the "Innovation Capacities" work programme at the Centre for Mediterranean Integration (CMI) in Marseille. The programme offers policy makers and practitiones from  countries in the Middle East and North Africa a forum to discuss and share best policy and work practices in Science and Technology, Innovation, Industrial Development, Entrepreneurships and job creation.
