Maurice completed a PhD in medicinal chemistry in London and is a diplomat in toxicology of the UK Royal College of Pathologists. After post-doctoral positions at the Institude for Cancer Research and University College Medical School in  London, he joined the UK Department of Health toxicology laboratory at St.Bartholomews hospital (London) as Senior Biochemist. He joined Unilever Research in the UK as a toxicologist for food products and then moved within Unilever to the Netherlands to join the Unilever Health Institute. Following 23 years in the food industry, he joined Philip Morris International in 2006 to work on the assessment of smoke-free products with the potential to offer reduced risk alternatives to adult smokers.
