Dr. Tariq-Ur-Rahman has a Masters degree in Physics from Punjab University and a PhD in Materials Science from the University of Hannover, Germany. After teaching for two years at the Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad he joined the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan in 1984, where he served as Director (Training) in charge of the S&T Scholarship Programme of the Ministry. In 1990 he was appointed as the first Science Counsellor at the Embassy of Pakistan, Beijing, where he served up to 1996. He subsequently headed the International Liaison Wing (1996-2001) and the Policy & Coordination as well as the Planning & Development Wings of the Ministry (2001-05). In May 2005 he was appointed as Chairman, Pakistan Council for Science and Technology (PCST), an autonomous organization advising the Government on S&T polic,y from where he superannuated in 2009. He is currently working as Advisor in the International Office, COMSATS INstitute of Information Technology (CIIT) since September 2010.
