Giorgio Paolucci is the Scientific Director of the SESAME Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory.

He got his Laurea in physics at the University of Rome “Sapienza” in 1981.

GP spent two years at the Fritz Haber Institut der Max Planck Gesellschaft in Berlin (Germany), with prof. A. M. Bradshaw. He then moved to Trieste, in the group of prof. R. Rosei. In the period 1984-1987, GP was involved in the startup of the TASC national laboratory for surface science.

In 1987 he joined the Elettra Italian national synchrotron radiation facility where he developed and operated the SuperESCA beamline, until the year 2000. From January 2001 to March 2006 he was director of the Experimental Division at Elettra. From January 2006 to 2013 he was member of the strategic board of the laboratory as Research Project Coordinator until 2011 and as Coordinator of International Projects afterwards.

In 2014 he joined SESAME as Scientific Director.

GP authored over 130 papers on refereed journals with an h-index of 31 (Scopus, June 2017)

In 2000 GP was awarded the honour of “Ufficiale” of the “Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” by the president of Italy, Mr. Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.
