Dr.Asanka is the Secretary of the Sri Lankan Academy of Young Scientists (SLAYS). Additionally, he is a senior lecturer attached to the Faculty of Computing & Technology at the University of Kelaniya (UoK) – a leading state university in Sri Lanka.

He has completed his PhD at DTU, working as a PhD scientist in Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, in Denmark. His research work focused on nanotechnology, developing a green-chemistry based superconductor application for wind power turbines. During his Bachelors and Masters degree period in Japan, all of his research work was done at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science & Technology in Nagoya, in the scopes of nanotechnology mainly focusing on semiconductor based functional thin film fabrication using laser ablation techniques.

After migrating back to Sri Lanka, Dr.Asanka worked as the Dean of the Northshore College of Business & Technology, affiliated to the University of the West of England, UK, until he got his current position at the UoK. Currently Dr.Asanka is involved also in curriculum development for the technology students in his faculty, mainly focusing on Learning Centered Education and Blended Learning.
