Dr Elizabeth (Liz) New undertook her undergraduate and Masters studies at the University of Sydney before completing her PhD studies in 2010 at the University of Durham (UK). Liz was then a Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 Research Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2012, she returned to the University of Sydney, holding an ARC DECRA Fellowship from 2012-2014, and a Westpac Research Fellowship from 2016. Her research team focusses on the development of small molecule chemical sensors to assist in medical and environmental research. Her research awards include the NSW Young Tall Poppy Award (2015) and the Premier’s Prize for NSW Early Career Researcher of the Year (2016). Liz is passionate about teaching, receiving awards including the RACI Educator of the Year Award (2016), and about improving the landscape for young researchers: she currently serves on the executive for the Early-Mid Career Researcher Forum and the National Committee for Chemistry.
