Dr Khatib is a past minister in the government of Jordan in many portolios and over many years.

He is presently a member of Jordan's Senate House.

He is one of the few engineers world wide to be elected to the fellowship of both the British Institute of Energy and Technology (IET) and the US  -  IEEE.

Presently he is a L.F.I.E.E.E.

His book on the Economics of Investment in the Electricity Supply Industry, published by the IET, went into third edition and is considered to be a classic on the subject.

He is member of the World Federation of Scientists .
