Daniela Hirschfeld has worked as a science journalist based in Uruguay since 1999. She was editor of the science section in Búsqueda, a weekly newspaper in Montevideo, and has been the editor in chief of a weekly magazine since 2007. She has been a regional assistant at the editing desk of the Latin American site of SciDev.Net since 2005. She was Knight Science Journalism Fellow (2009-2010). She is a professor of journalism at the Universidad Católica del Uruguay and ORT University in Uruguay, and a science communication consultant for local and international organizations. Daniela is the author of “Mentes en juego” that presents the profile of seven Uruguayan scientists that have original hobbies, and it is based on the long studied idea that pastimes have helped the scientific careers of most of the most brilliant scientists.
