Dr Hayek worked for 15 years at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) of Jordan and was in charge of the Environmental Research Centre during 1999 – 2009. He focused on improving environmental resources management and reducing environmental health impacts of various economic activities. He contributed to advancing the centre’s and the laboratories services including the field of chemical and biological safety, hazardous material management, and eco-efficiency. Dr Hayek became an independent consultant in 2010 and established his line of consultation in eco-efficiency, biological and chemical safety and security, and hazardous chemical and waste management.  In 2014, Dr Hayek became a team leader at GIZ – Jordan in the field of water / energy and climate mitigation and implemented measures to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in water utilities.
