Dr Rohani Hashim

Secretary General, World Association of Industrial Technological and Research Organizations (WAITRO)

She is the holder of a Doctorate degree in Chemistry from King's College London and Master's Degree in Biotechnology from Imperial College London.

She is a staff of Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM) but now seconded to WAITRO Secretariat as its Chief Administrator.  WAITRO is an association comprising 159 members in  76 countries. The Secretariat is currently supported and hosted by the Government of Malaysia.

She had served positions of Programme Head of the then Advanced Wastewater Treatment (AWWT) Programme under the Environment & Bioprocess Centre, SIRIM; Programme Head for SIRIM-JICA* project on "Rist Management of Hazardous Chemical Substances"; **MOSTI-funded project on "Bioremediation of Industrial Wastewater"; WAITRO-ISESCO collaborative projects, programmes and activities in countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, among others; and project team member of the EU FP7 Biowaste 4SP project under the WAITRO project consortium.

Other experience include establishing WAITRO linkages with international and national agencies such as UNESCO, UNIDO, ISESCO, ASEAN Secretariat and research & technological organizations worldwide. She serves as an expert panel appointed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Malaysia in the fields of Environment, Life Sciences and Biotechnology.
