Jamil Harb is working currently at Birzeit University (Palestine) as a Professor for Plant Biology. He received his PhD in Postharvest Biology 1994 from Hohenheim University (Stuttgart - Germany) , and joined Birzeit University 1998. 2010 he won Abdel-Hamid Shoman for Agricultural Sciences, and 2014 also won the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.

The research interests of Prof. Harb are in the fields of (a) Plant Biodiversity in Palestine, (b) Plant Responses to Abiotic Stresses, and (c) Postharvest Biology of Fruits and Vegetables. In addition, he is active in promoting sustainable development of the agricultural sector in Palestine, and recently he started two new research projects that addressed (a) plant nutrition of plants that are cultivated in greenhouses, and (b) food losses of fresh products (in cooperation with FAO).

Scientific cooperation of Prof. Harb extends to researchers in USA and Europe, with partners at Cornell University, Ludwig Maximillian University of Munich, the Technical University of Munich, and Freiburg University. In addition, he joined Max-Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology for one full year (2015).
