Maarten is an expert in climate change and energy sector analysis, combining a physics and economics background. He has applied this training in both the UK and internationally, in the EU, Eurasia, Africa and New Zealand.

In the energy sector, Maarten has focussed issues in power generation. He has built up significant expertise in low carbon technologies, particularly battery storage and CCS, but has also worked on higher level policy questions around the energy transition.

His climate change work has focussed on green business. He has developed significant expertise in climate insurance and agribusiness, and has worked more generally on developing indices and other methods to assess the status of the green economy in African and Eurasian countries.

Maarten has a Masters in Economics with Distinction from the London School of Economics, and undergraduate training in Physics.
