Dr Jamie Goggins is a Chartered Engineer, Senior Lecturer at the National University of Ireland Galway and Principal Investigator in the Centre for Marine and Renewable Energy in Ireland (MaREI), leading the Materials and Structures research group in MaREI. He leads a multi-disciplinary team, who work closely with industry, developing sustainable solutions to the major national and global challenges of providing comfortable and healthy buildings to live and work, while improving energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Over the last eight years, as well has educating in excess of 1600 students, he has been principal investigator on more than 30 research projects and produced more than 170 peer-reviewed technical papers. As a teacher, he uses Service Learning as a pedagogical tool, which connects students’ academic study with the context of community and society, with the explicit intention of promoting active and responsible citizenship. He is President of the Civil Engineering Research Association of Ireland (CERAI) and an elected member of the Council of Engineers Ireland, the professional body for Engineers in Ireland, representing over 22000 members.
