Prof. Aly El-Shafei received his bachelor's degree and Master's degree from Cairo University, Egypt, and his Ph.D. degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) all in Mechanical Engineering.  Dr. El-Shafei is a recipient of several Grants and Awards.  He has published more than 80 papers in international journals and conferences and has 3 US patents to his name.  He is certified as a Category IV Analyst in vibration condition monitoring according to ISO 18436. He is also the Convenor of ISO TC108/SC2/WG10 developing international standards of vibration diagnostics.  Dr. El-Shafei is the receipient of the prestigious 2017 Grand African Innovation Prize.

Prof. El-Shafei is currently a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Cairo University.  He has held positions as Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, USA; Technical Director of Ezz Group, a Steel manufacturing conglomerate 1994-1997; Assistant Minister for Science and Technology 2006-2008; Executive Director of the Science and Technology Development Fund 2008-2011; and Chairman of the Mechanical Design and Production Department, Cairo University 2011-2014.
