Guéladio Cissé is sanitary engineer, environmental epidemiologist, and research director, currently head of the Ecosystem Health Sciences Unit within the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, at Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), an associate institute of the University of Basel. He joined Swiss TPH since September 2009, after 15 years of professional experience in West Africa. Over more than 25 years, Guéladio’s research interests pertain to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) links with health, e.g. health impacts of environmental pollutions, water quality and urban agriculture, water related and food-borne diseases, parasitic infections, nutrition and climate change. He is leading partnership research teams, and teaching and supervising young researchers mainly in Switzerland and Africa. He has been during 6 years at the International Engineering School for Water and Environment in Burkina Faso (successively as assistant, lecturer and head of the sanitary engineering department) and nine years at the Swiss Center for Scientific Research Centre in Côte d’Ivoire (successively as regional coordinator in West Africa for a program related to global change, environmental health and sustainable development, deputy and managing director of the research center).
