Dr. Leo M. Chalupa is Vice President for Research and Professor of Pharmacology and Physiology at George Washington University (GWU) in Washington D.C.   In his role as Vice President for Research he serves as the chief executive officer responsible for all research administration and approximately 85 interdisciplinary institutes and centers at the GWU.  Prior to joining GWU in 2009, Dr. Chalupa was Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Neurobiology as well as Chair of the Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of California, Davis.   His research deals with the developmental neurobiology of the visual system, a field in which he has published more than 150 papers and edited 5 books published by the MIT Press.  Among his honors and awards are: Fellow status in the American Association for the Advancement of Science as well as the Association for Psychological Science.  He has also been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a NIH Fogarty International Senior Fellowship and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Fellowship.
