Dr. Md Sagir Ahmed is a Professor of Zoology, University of Dhaka since 1997. He has completed his Bachelor and Masters Degree in Zoology (Fisheries) from the University of Dhaka. He has obtained his Ph D from Kagoshima University, Japan in 1995. Dr. Ahmed did postdoc research in Japan and Germany. He has attended more than 25 international and national training programs and workshops to update knowledge, skills and presented papers in over 15 International Conferences and Seminars (Australia, Canada, Japan, China, Germany, Denmark, UK, South Africa, Greece, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Cambodia, India, etc.). He teaches and undertakes research related to environment, natural resources, environmental management, population sciences and planning in Bangladesh including basic zoology and fisheries. He has worked with research counterparts from Germany, UK, Denmark, Sweden, Japan, New Zealand and Morocco and has undertaken work for the various donor agencies (World Bank, DFID, UNESCO, IOC. ADB), NGO’s, Public and Private Universities, Research Organizations and Government agencies. Dr Ahmed is pioneer in DNA barcoding in Bangladesh and has barcoded 250 freshwater fishes of Bangladesh. He has published more than 50 scientific articles and book chapters from his extraordinary research findings.
