Dr. Bisher Imam has a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Aleppo and Ph.D in watershed hydrology from University of Arizona. During his academic career, he served as research scientist at the USDA-Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS), as the associated director of the NASA funded Hydrologic Data and Information System (HyDIS) at the University of Arizona , and was a founding member of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Remote Sensing (CHRS) at the University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Imam joined UNESCO’s International Hydrological Programme (IHP) as a Senior consultant in 2010. In 2012, he was appointed Deputy Secretary of IHP and became responsible for coordinating the growing network of UNESCO water-related Centres. In 2015, he began field service at UNESCO’s Regional Bureau for Sciences for the Arab States in Cairo, where he now serves as the Regional Hydrologist for the Arab States and UNESCO’s focal point on climate change in the region.
