Dr. Tom Wang

CV
Tom Wang is the Chief International Officer of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He also serves as the Director of the AAAS Center for Science Diplomacy. He is responsible for guiding the association’s international engagement strategy and building its international relationships. He co-founded the Center for Science Diplomacy and its open-access policy journal, Science & Diplomacy.
Prior to AAAS, he was a science and technology policy adviser and AAAS Diplomacy Fellow in the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, where he received a Superior Honor Award for his contributions to the diplomatic strategy for addressing a pandemic influenza threat in East Asia. As an expert in polymeric nano-composite materials, his scientific career has included research and engineering positions at Johnson & Johnson and Hewlett-Packard as well as consulting for various technology companies. He received his doctorate degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and he is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley with degrees in chemical engineering and political science. He was a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
