Over the last 10 years Salah Sukkarieh has been developing low cost digital and robotic solutions to transform on-farm food production for global food and nutrition security. His solutions have been demonstrated around Australia and in developing countries in the South Pacific. He has also developed digitial education technologies for schools that focus on encouraging children to undertake careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics related to technology for sustainable food production.

 

Salah is the Professor of Robotics and Intelligent Systems at the University of Sydney, and the Director of Research and Innovation at the Australia Centre for Field Robotics. He is an international expert in the research, development and commercialisation of field robotic systems. He has led a number of robotics and intelligent systems R&D projects in logistics, commercial aviation, aerospace, education, environment monitoring, agriculture and mining. He was awarded the 2014 "Researcher of the Year" by the Australian Vegetable Industry peak body, the 2014 NSW Science and Engineering Award for Excellence in Engineering and Information and Communications Technologies, and the 2017 Eureka Prize for Leadership in Innovation and Science. In 2016 he was selected as one of Australia's Most Innovative Engineers by Engineers Australia, and he is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
