Dr. Ali Al-Sawalmih is a German researcher on marine and coastal sciences at the University of Jordan (UJ) in Aqaba, Jordan, and a guest researcher at the Max-Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces (MPIKG) in Potsdam, Germany.  Before joining the UJ, he was a full-time researcher at the Max-Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces (MPIKG) in Germany for almost 5 years. He earned his PhD degree on Marine Calcification from the Max-Planck Institute for Iron Research (MPIE) in 2007 and his MSc degree on materials physics from the Max Planck Institute for Solid-State Research (MPIFKF) in 2004 in Germany. His research  interests are focused on nanostructure of marine calcified tissues and his contributions are mainly toward explaining the role of sustainable coastal development in mitigation of negative impacts of anthropogenic activities on marine ecosystems. He published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and reviewed many articles.
