Casimiro Vizzini is an Expert at the International Basic Sciences Programme. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Palermo. After obtaining his diploma of specialist in Urology at the University of Messina he attended a master in International Cooperation at the "Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques" (IRIS) in Paris. He started working for UNESCO, as an intern, in April 2007 in the division of Basic and Engineering Sciences where he collaborated with the Life Sciences Section as consultant for a year after the end of his internship. In 2008 he was selected for the Junior Professional Officer (JPO) programme from Italy and worked as junior staff member for 4 years in the same section. In 2012 the Global Variome (GV) Consortium proposed to finance his post as Expert at P3 level in the International Basic Sciences Programme. Since then he is responsible for the Human Variome Project (HVP) and the EU-funded projects PERFORM in Science Communication and InsSciDE in Science Diplomacy. In addition, Dr Vizzini collaborates with the American Association for the Advancement in Science (AAAS) in the field of Science Diplomacy.
