Daniel Korbel is currently acting as Global Head of Science at the British Council. His team develops and supports science and research-related projects across the orghanisation’s global network and builds and maintains relationships with key stakeholders in the UK and internationally, with the aim of enhancing and supporting researcher mobility, collaborations and skills. After finishing his degree in genetics at the University of Cologne, Daniel moved into infectious disease research, completing a PhD in malaria immunology at LSHTM in 2006 and working as a postdoctoral researcher until transitioning into research management in 2010. Working for the Wellcome Trust, Daniel coordinated a range of international collaborations and capacity building initiatives for public health and infectious diseases research in low- and middle-income countries. Later he joined the Economic and Social Research Council as Senior Research Portfolio Manager and Deputy Head of International Development Research to lead on a number of partnership programmes with the UK Department for International Development on economic growth and poverty alleviation research. Daniel took up his appointment with the British Council in 2014.
