Ms Ong Bee Leng May, as the Director Unconventional Threats in the Office of the Chief Science and Technology Officer, Ministry of Home Affairs, reports to the Chief Science and Technology Officer of MHA. Ms Ong started her professional career at DSO National Laboratory in 1995. Her niche areas as a researcher in DSO National Laboratories include Chemical & Biological Decontamination and in the analysis of Chemical warfare agents. Ms Ong moved on to Ministry of Home Affairs in 2008 to take up the position of Assistant Director (Unconventional Threats) in the officer of the Chief Science and Technology Officer (OCSTO) of MHA in 2008. Since joining MHA, Ms Ong had embarked on a journey of introducing Science and Technology for border surveillance of Security Sensitive Materials in Singapore. In 2009, she operationalised the World’s first-ever Protective Analytical Facility (PAF) in Singapore. Today, Ms Ong heads a network of scientific facility such as Tuas PAF, Woodlands Analytical Facility (WAL), Protective Analytical and Assessment Facility (PAAF) and The Home Team Investigation Lab (HTIL). The network of scientific laboratories has allowed Singapore to conduct on-site screening and confirmatory analysis capabilities for SSMs.
