Alice Valkarova studied nuclear physics at Charles University in Prague (Czech Republic). After graduation she spent several years working at Joint Institute of Nuclear Research in Dubna (Russia, then former USSR). Alice then participated in the H1 experiment which studied electron-proton interactions in the HERA collider at DESY laboratory (Hamburg, Germany). She served 8 years as the president of the Czech Physical Society. As of December 2016, Alice is the current President of the Czech Science Foundation (GACR), which is the most important funding agency in the Czech Republic supporting basic research across all scientific fields.
