Moritz is Associate Professor for Soft Functional Nanomaterials in the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford, UK, and current Co-Chair of the Global Young Academy (GYA). Before moving to Oxford in 2013, he worked in Germany at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and the University of Freiburg as PhD student, and at the Technische Universität Dresden as postdoctoral researcher and head of a junior research group. His research is focussed on investigating and improving organic solar cells, a new solar cell technology that has potential for light-weight, inexpensive, flexible, large area, long-living and efficient solar cells, becoming a ubiquitous source of electricity. Parallel to this, Moritz has been working for many years on the interface between science and society, where he has been addressing societal challenges, in particular towards transforming our energy system into a sustainable one, and engaging in promoting the special responsibility scientists have towards society. As GYA Co-Chair, his goal is to facilitate a GYA enabling the voice of young scientists to be heard around the world, build bridges across divides and address the challenges our and future generations face.
