Indar Ramnarine is Professor of Fisheries & Aquaculture at the UWI. He holds a BSc degree in Agriculture (UWI), an MSc in Fisheries Management (University of Wales), a PhD in Zoology in the field of Aquaculture  (UWI) and an MBA specializing in Human Resource Management (Edinburgh Business School).  He has been involved in fisheries and aquaculture research for almost 30 years and has successfully supervised several PhD and M.Phil students. His research in aquaculture has focused on several species such as the cascadu, river conch, shrimp, Malaysian prawn and tilapia, and is considered to be a world authority on the cascadu (Hassar). He  has done voluntary work in Jamaica, Guyana, Suriname, Cambodia, Nepal, Thailand and Bangladesh. He introduced aquaponics to Trinidad several years ago and has conducted several very successful workshops in aquaponics. His research work in fisheries has focused on the development of sustainable fishing methods. He also works on evolutionary biology (using the guppy as a model species) and collaborates with several researchers from Canada, the USA, Australia, the UK and Europe. His research has yielded 1 book, 1 monograph, 1 book chapter, 82 publications in refereed journals, 18 refereed conference proceedings, 13 refereed abstracts, 18 workshop papers and 10 technical reports. He supervised several students pursuing higher degrees in the field of fisheries science and management, aquaculture, fish & shellfish diversity, and  behavioural ecology of the guppy. To date, he has successfully supervised 10 PhDs and 12 M.Phils.  He was appointed as Dean of the Faculty of Science & Technology, The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus, on August 1st 2012 and in March 2014, as University Dean.
