Esther Orozco

Esther Orozco is Emeritus Professor in CINVESTAV, IPN and National Emeritus Research Fellow of Conacyt, Mexico. She is a member of the Mexican Academy of Science, The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the World Science Forum. Her work is focused to the study of genes and proteins involved in parasites virulence. She has published more than 200 scientific papers, five books and five patents and directed 90 research thesis. She has been visitant professor in Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel), School of Medicine, University of Virginia (USA), Cancer National Institute (Netherlands) and School of Public Health, Harvard University (USA). She was an international fellow Howard Hughes Medical Institute (USA).  She has been recipient of Miguel Otero (Award given by the Health Ministry in Mexico) Rosenkranz (Syntex, México), Pasteur Medal (UNESCO and Pasteur Institute, France), Canifarma, Mexico (Pharmaceutical Industry in Mexico), Cuba Academy of Science Award, L’Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science and others given by the Government of Chihuahua State, Mexico, the State Congress, the University of Chihuahua.  There is an award with her name in Chihuahua for distinguished women in science.   She was the former Secretary of Planning in Cinvestav, General Director of the Institute for Science and Technology in Mexico City and Dean of the University of Mexico City.
