Professor Kuku is an out-going President of the African Academy of Sciences (2014-2017) and Distinguished Professor at the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja. He was also President of the African Mathematical Union for nine years(1986-95). He was a Professor and Head of Mathematics as well as Dean of the Post-Graduate School, Univerity of Ibadan, Nigeria. He was Professor of Mathematics at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy for nine years and has been William W. S.claytor Endowed Professor of Mathematics at Grambling State Univerity, USA. He has held many visting positions in the USA, Canada, Europe, China, etc including being member of the Institute for Advances Study, Princeton, NJ, USA. He is a foundation Fellow of the American Mathematics Society, Fellow of TWAS, European Academy of Arts, Science and Humanities, African Academy of Sciences, Nigerian Academy of Science and foreign Fellow of the Mongolian Academyof Science. In 2009, he was awarded NNOM (Nigerian National Order of Merit) by the President of Nigeria for academic excellence--the highest such honour possible in Nigeria.
