Dr. Etinosa Igbinosa holds a PhD degree in Microbiology. He is a research professor and leader of a research group at the University of Benin, Nigeria. He has received wide recognition for his research nationally and internationally. He is a recipient of several outstanding awards and fellowships and has won several research grants from various funding organizations. He served as TWAS Young Affiliates for the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World from the Sub-Saharan Africa region in recognition of outstanding scholarly scientific research for 5 years (2011-2015). He is a founding member of the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) and TWAS Young Affiliate Network (TYAN). He regularly contributes to the activities of Global Young Academy (GYA) and a fellow of the Africa Science Leadership Programme (ASLP) at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. He is Alexander von Humboldt Foundation Scholar at the Max Rubner-Institute (MRI) Kiel, Germany.

 

His research focused on microbial ecology and biodiversity of microorganisms in ecosystems such as food, animal and environment, with the goal of identifying new strains. He has also made critical contributions to the understanding structure and diversity in antibiotic resistant, and virulence genes in foodborne pathogens. His work finds applications nationally and internationally in the tackling antimicrobial resistance strains of leading food safety problems and in the environment.
