Dr. Heike Harmgart

Director, Regional Head of the Eastern Mediterranean Region, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD)

Dr. Heike Harmgart is heading EBRD’s activities in Jordan since the beginning of the Bank’s expansion to the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region. EBRD started investing in Jordan end of 2012 and has since then committed over USD 1bn in investments, over half in the energy sector with a special focus on renewables. She was previously covering the region as the Senior Economist in charge of the Macro Economic and Structural Economic Analysis. She has published in many peer reviewed journals including work on the impact of innovation and government policies on growth.

Prior to joining the EBRD, Dr. Harmgart worked several years for the Economist Group, mainly on emerging markets in the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). She holds an Economics Master’s degree from Berlin’s Humboldt University and a PhD in Economics from University College London (UCL).
