Mrs. Barakat is the Founder and Managing Director of "To-Excel Consulting", a research based firm established in 2005 to manage and implement socio-economic development projects. She has extensive experience working with government and international organisations. She previously served as Minister of Social Development, Minister of Public Sector Development, Council Member of Greater Amman City and General Director of National Aid Fund.  Nesreen has a practical working knowledge in managing result oriented technical assistance projects including the Jordan National Competitiveness Team, EJADA Policy Support and Institutional Strengthening Component and SABEQ Enhancing Productivity Component. She was selected as one of the Forbes 200 most powerful women in the Arab World in 2014.
